  • Laleston Community Council hopes that local residents will be less inconvenienced this winter as compared to the difficulties experienced last year with the long periods of snow and ice on pavements and roads.

At its last meeting it accepted a joint funding offer from Bridgend County Borough Council, whereby the Community Council will pay for the initial purchase of snow/ice grit bins and the County Borough Council will supply the salted grit.  In total, and subject to agreement with any affected local resident, Laleston Community Council has set aside the sum of £5,250 to pay for 21grit bins throughout Broadlands, Bryntirion, Laleston and Cefn Glas.

Monies have been set aside also to cover costs of –

    • Summer holiday playscheme [Play 4 Life] based at Ysgol Maes yr Haul, Broadlands - £2,500.
    • Two extra bus shelters [£8,000] to be sited at Broadlands – one near the Nursery on Ffordd Tirion and the other on the western Loop Road. Negotiations will recommence to provide a much needed bus shelter at Merlin Crescent, Cefn Glas.
    • Two extra wayside seats [£1,500] – one on the grass verge in front of Bryron Avenue, Cefn Glas and the other alongside the cyclepath /footpath in the vicinity of Tai Arfryn, Broadlands.  The latter site however has been held up by ‘adoption’ problems with Bridgend County Borough Council and Broadlands Residents Association will be asked to nominate another site.
  • Following the success of providing a youth shelter and teenager play equipment at Bryntirion Playing Fields [summer 2009] Laleston Community Council wish to provide teenager play equipment at other sites throughout the community area.  This year it is hoped to provide three items of equipment in Cefn Glas, either solely on the grassed area at Wordsworth Avenue / Milton Drive / Shakespeare Avenue, near site of previous playarea [elephant slide etc.] or shared with grassed area near children’s playarea at rear of Lon-y-Coed, Llangewydd Court.  It must be stressed however that this proposal, with a maximum budget of £40,000, will be subject to consultation with nearby local residents before any decision is taken to apply for Planning Permission.
